The lure of city living has been growing of late. Many people are drawn to urban lifestyle due to more job opportunities, better infrastructure and myriad fine dining, shopping and entertainment options. City living also presents the opportunity to dictate one’s own life and carve out one’s own niche while keeping up with the excitement in a fast-paced environment. The owner of a unit in Lake Point Residence in Cyberjaya desired just that and upon being given the task of making that a reality, Ken Thong delivered the urban concept.
A feeling of laid-back luxury immediately greets anyone who enters the house courtesy of a simple and sleek modern minimalist interior. The challenge in the design was to find a balance between the predominantly concrete colour scheme and harmonising it with natural elements such as wood. The solid wood dining set and coffee table creates a warm and inviting ambience while a yellow fabric armchair adds a touch of cheerfulness to a grey fabric sofa. Meanwhile, a metal chrome finish floor lamp and pendant lamp, eyeballs and spotlights to dim the space give it a relaxing atmosphere while ensuring each area is being illuminated with a healthy amount of lighting.
The connectivity between the open spaces can be seen through the clean and straight lines reflected from the large island counter and dining table next to the living area to the kitchen’s interior. The kitchen expands the overall colour scheme by using black quartz stone for its countertop. The use of stone further emphasise the concept of complementing an urban lifestyle with natural elements. In the master bedroom, the dark wood bed frame coupled with the wood panel flooring give the room a warm yet refined atmosphere. The wood panel flooring is also used in the master walk-in closet and study area to maintain visual continuity between spaces. For an added touch of personality, a blue shade illuminates the study area which also provides a sense of calmness.
