Metrics Global’s Beach Clean-up 2026: 245 Participants Remove 381kg of Coastal Waste at Pantai Morib

Clean-up efforts uncovered 4,437 litter items across 33.78km, highlighting the urgent need for responsible waste disposal.

As part of their annual corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, Malaysian-owned interior design companies Metrics Global Sdn Bhd and MG Plus Sdn Bhd held a joint beach clean-up event at Pantai Morib, Selangor, on 19 September 2026.

Bringing together around 245 people, comprising of volunteers, industry partners, collaborators and members of the wider community, this initiative successfully removed 381.27 kilograms of waste, recording 4,437 individual items and covering a combined distance of 33.78 kilometers along the beach, shoreline and inland areas.

Building on the theme of “Responsibility Beyond the Build”, the Beach Clean-Up 2026 was built around three campaign pillars: Care, Connect and Commit, expressed through the messages “Care Beyond Today”, “Connect for Tomorrow” and “Commit for the Future”. Prior to this initiative, Metrics Global also organised “Use. Throw. Repeat.”, a pre-event engagement program introduced in July 2026 which aims to help participating organisations identify, clean and sort everyday plastic waste and make overall waste consumption patterns more visible.

The CSR initiative received environmental awareness support from Reef Check Malaysia, educational and upcycling contributions from AACE, and waste-sorting and recycling guidance from Kawan Guni. Ceratrade and Feruni Malaysia came on board as sponsors, while Webby Group, The Plow and ACG Media provided digital and social support. Metrics Global and MG Plus led the organisation of the program.

A Broader Picture on Coastal Waste

The initiative uncovered a large range of everyday and bulky waste, including 177 glass beverage bottles, 147 plastic straws and stirrers, 127 plastic utensils, 122 construction materials, 112 plastic cups and plates, and 99 pieces of other plastic waste and miscellaneous waste such as metal and paper. Volunteers also collected 90 strapping bands, 65 pieces of personal protective equipment, 48 fishing gear, including lines, nets, traps and ropes, 21 e-cigarettes and 16 pieces of electronic waste.

Cigarette butts were the most recorded waste item, with 1,511 pieces collected, representing 34.05% of all 4,437 items. Plastic and foam fragments were next at 345 pieces, followed by other plastic bags at 259, plastic grocery bags at 238 and food wrappers at 196.

Supporting Environmental Responsibility Together

As operators within the interior architecture and design industry, Metrics Global and MG Plus believe environmental responsibility extends beyond the spaces they design and build. This year’s CSR initiative puts that belief into action, bringing businesses, suppliers, collaborators and the wider community together to take collective responsibility for their surroundings.

The clean-up exercise at Pantai Morib continued the momentum of the 2025 beach clean-up at Pantai Kelanang, which brought together approximately 330 participants, removed close to 500 kilograms of waste and recorded 6,359 collected items. The 2026 results provide new data on the types of litter found along Selangor’s coastline, helping inform future environmental awareness campaigns and clean-up initiatives.
