Equal parts Eastern and Western in terms of its aesthetic, this expansive penthouse in Kuala Lumpur creatively balances two seemingly incompatible concepts almost effortlessly.

Nestled in Desa ParkCity, One Central Park offers the opportunity to feel what it is like to live in a park within a park and this duplex penthouse unit delivers the epitome of that experience. As the proud owner of this exclusive residence, Alvinterior Concept’s client wanted their home to match its setting but still celebrate their culture. In response to this, the designer developed a modern classic concept that seamlessly combined contemporary elements, natural materials and oriental charm to create one picture-perfect abode.

Pointing the way inside, the home’s herringbone solid wood flooring sets the tone of the main social space along with the white cupboard doors with rose gold trimmings lining the nearby wall. Ornate mirrors with rose gold frames both continue the decorative trend and help magnify the home’s impressive sense of spaciousness which has already been well-established thanks to a double-volume ceiling. Similarly decked out in white and rose gold trimmings from the onyx island top to the bar stools, the dry kitchen around the corner exudes class while still being completely practical.

In the living area, the centrepiece is undeniably the custom laser-cut veneer behind the television that stretches all the way up to the double-volume ceiling. Flanked by mirrors and lamps crafted to resemble ancient statues, its detailed craftsmanship is a perfect match not only for the space’s overall aesthetic but also the large patterned rug underneath it. Completing the space’s almost regal air are a white sofa set with rose gold frames, a glass-topped rose gold coffee table and a truly spectacular chandelier.

Also sporting its own chandelier is the dining area right next to the living area which establishes its own distinct style through its furnishings without disrupting the overall look of the entire floor. Defined by a top made of natural onyx and a solid wood base, the dining table creates a truly magnificent picture alongside the cream upholstered dark wood dining chairs that have been paired with it.

Up the nearby stairs, the mezzanine floor creates the impression of being an altogether different world thanks to its heavily oriental-inspired décor. Dominated by a colour scheme that comprises primarily of dark brown and bright red, this social space is a tribute to the homeowner’s rich and beautiful culture. Decked out with traditional-looking furniture that bears a light modern touch, it manages to carefully straddle the line between past and present to create a truly unique atmosphere. Nevertheless, the area still retains its connection to the home’s overall concept thanks to its herringbone solid wood flooring as well as its white walls. Providing that added visual connection are the stainless steel-framed sections covered with rose gold textured paint on them. Last but not least, the ceiling covered entirely with gold leaf heightens the mezzanine floor’s atmosphere and brings it back to the glamorous era of Chinese dynasties.

Appropriately enough, the bedrooms maintain the somewhat dual nature of the residence’s design in their own way with the master bedroom sporting an overall more modern aesthetic while the other bedrooms’ décors lean towards the oriental side. Perhaps the most outstanding element which is unique to every bedroom is the headboard even in the case of the other bedrooms. For the master bedroom, it is a green diamond-patterned upholstered piece with button tufting that extends all the way up to the ceiling. Meanwhile, the other bedrooms boast fantastic solid wood carvings for headboards that give the rooms an undeniably opulent feel.
