Minimalist design, unlike public preconceptions of it being ‘simple’ or ‘plain’, is an approach that is as delicate to master as it is to sculpt marble. There lies a tasteful poise in minimalism, one that determines a well-designed space from not. No strangers to this aesthetic balance are these 6 homes curated by Malaysian designers.
By sticking to a defined colour and texture palette, it is this very lack of ‘unclutteredness’ that brings about minimalism’s widely known calming effects. In today’s fast-paced and sometimes overwhelming world, rest can also come in the form of eliminating visual ‘commotion’ from one’s place of residence.
For the designers over at Hera Concept Studio, a sleek composition of curves was their format of choice to add visual dynamism to this Penang home. Because of it, despite the project’s overarching austerity, a refreshing character can be found in every space within the maisonette.

Who says minimalism cannot come vibrant? At this KL home, Wuuu Studio kept to its design approach whilst cleverly and moderately injecting colour as needed. As a touch that helps tie everything together, the select redwood pieces all throughout the home drenches charisma into an otherwise soothing environment.

Chic contours and trim lines make up this KL home’s inner spaces. A design directed by the team at The Grid Studio, this relaxing project hones in greatly on its precise workmanship, making its residents feel as though they live within a delicate painting worth a spot at The Louvre.

A distinct energy envelops this high-rise Mont Kiara abode by LK Works, thanks to its consistent use of walnut wood tones against eggshell white. With overall structures kept to clean silhouettes, the home’s energy simply weaves between an elegantly limited selection of textures for visual comfort.

Tranquility seeps through this PJ home’s every vestibule. Artfully designed by Boldndot, there exists little dashes of surprise, however, around every corner: expect sparse terrazzo bookends, discreet marble-esque motif walls and fluted glass divides that provide an extra ‘oomph’ to the embracing minimalism.
A plethora of concealed alcoves aid in the final look of this Subang Jaya home by Halo Interiors. Using pearl white as a base, the spaces within contain a mix of warm and cool lighting that gives Project 46 its constant achromatic tone, paired with quirky details like elliptical mirrors and irregular sculpted vases.
