Perhaps it was written in the stars that some dreams were meant to come true. In the case of a couple, their dream of provincial living with Anglo-influence in tropical Malaysia was made real by DCS Creatives Sdn Bhd, which breathed new life into their clients’ residence in a tranquil neighbourhood and transformed it into their dream home.

Aptly named Provincial Providence, this project, located within tropical Malaysia, brings its residents and guests on a journey to the past. The space throughout the residence is well utilised and yet allows sufficient room for ease of mobility. In addition to the utilisation of horizontal and vertical lines to project a safe and expansive feeling, dynamic lines on the stairs and ceiling add drama to the residence’s ambience. The combination of warm lighting and white walls makes a pastel cream colour that leaves a sense of elegance within the residence. The presence of natural light produces subtle shadows and highlights architectural details, which help to fashion an elegant setting.

The marble floors, white walls, and warm lighting create a visual canvas that draws focus on the fireplace, sofa set, and a table in the living room. Symbolic of love, the red sofa attracts attention. The curved legs of the living room table and sofa set near the fireplace are curved outward and down, almost like the ballet movement. The cabriole sofa style, reflecting characteristics of Chippendale furniture, was popular during the first half of the 18^th century. Combined with the hearth and fireplace, there is a sense of nostalgia that is comforting within the residence’s main social space.

With pink and turquoise being primary and secondary colours, the kitchen exudes a sense of romance that arouses interest and excitement in a softer way, while staying true to the residence’s tropical environment. The vermillion wooden parquet flooring at the upper floor’s study and entertainment room brings forth a sense of warmth and vigour.

With large windows ensuring ample natural illumination, the master bedroom retains the overall style of the residence. There is a sense of cleanliness and simplicity within the bathrooms, which use the achromatic colour scheme. Subway and black tiles create visual interest and liven up the bathrooms. When various characteristics of the home are put together, they result in a sense of nostalgic elegance that is comforting to its residents and guests.
