Metrics Global & MG Plus removes half tonne of beach trash with help from 330 volunteers

Metrics Global Sdn Bhd and MG Plus Sdn Bhd recently wrapped up their Beach Clean-Up 3.0 at Pantai Kelanang, Banting in company of 330 enthusiastic 'warriors'

Aiming for better sustainability education through workshops and a hands-on beach cleanup, Metrics Global and MG Plus’ initiative led to the removal of nearly 500 kilograms of trash from the Banting coastline, with volunteers having collected a total of 6,359 items. The top three most common pollutants found were cigarette butts, foam fragments along with plastic bags and a plethora of loose plastic chunks.

These findings highlight the ongoing issue of disposable plastics, emphasising the need for sustained, community-driven actions to protect the environment. The initiative also served as a platform to empower and engage the volunteers, particularly our youth, on the negative environmental effects of single-use waste.

Partner organisations like AACE Malaysia, STEM Academy, ECOSER and PREFACE conducted several interactive workshops throughout the day with activities like plastic crushing demonstrations, jellybag making and sandy shrinks and crafts using recycled bottles. These firsthand experiences encouraged families and children to adopt habits and hobbies in enjoyable yet sustainable ways previously unconsidered.

Since its establishment in 2018, the Beach Clean-Up Squad has evolved into a lasting initiative for coastal preservation and environmental stewardship. With the success of this year’s affair, Metrics Global and MG Plus reaffirm their position in promoting sustainability awareness through ongoing efforts.

The organisers express their sincerest appreciation and thanks to all volunteers, partners and community members involved in making Beach Clean-Up 3.0 a meaningful achievement. It is only through such endeavours that allow Malaysia to move closer toward achieving cleaner ecosystems for its future generations.
