APT. Reimagines the Art of Staying in Singapore’s Civic District

Words: Aqilah Najwa Jamaluddin

A clock tower, the geometry of a clock face and the familiar character of Singapore’s black-and-white houses might seem like disparate sources of inspiration. At APT., however, they come together to shape an interior language that feels both rooted in place and suited to contemporary city living.

Now open at Stamford Place in Singapore’s Civic District, APT. occupies Levels Three and Four of the reimagined former Stamford Court building. The 66-apartment concept is designed for stays of six nights or longer, bringing the independence of an apartment together with the services and conveniences of a hotel.

The interiors by Singapore-based interdisciplinary practice Ministry of Design take their cues from the building’s distinctive clock tower and the surrounding district. Horology, the study and craft of timekeeping, informs a vocabulary of arches, ovals and radiating geometries, while the relaxed domesticity of black-and-white houses finds expression in warm timber, tactile finishes and a soft residential palette. The effect is contemporary without losing sight of the architectural context that surrounds it.

Working with art consultancy The Artling, the project incorporates works by Singaporean and Singapore-based artists throughout the apartments and shared spaces, giving the interiors a connection to the city’s creative community.

The Comforts of a More Personal Stay

At APT., the idea of home is expressed through the way each apartment accommodates everyday life. The range spans compact studios and larger suites, with layouts and amenities suited to different lengths of stay and ways of travelling.

The 24-square-metre APT. Studio brings together a king-sized bed, dedicated workspace and under-bed luggage storage. Selected studios connect through a shared vestibule fitted with filtered drinking water, a sink, refrigerator and microwave. When adjoining apartments are booked together, this becomes a private shared space for families or groups, offering a degree of connection while allowing each party to retain its own room.

The APT. Deluxe, at 29 square metres, and APT. Urban, ranging from 35 to 38 square metres, introduce kitchenettes that make longer stays feel more self-sufficient. The Stamford Suite and Stamford Premier Suite offer separate living and sleeping areas, private kitchenettes and in-room washers and dryers, allowing guests to settle into a more residential routine.

For families or those travelling together, the 37-square-metre Hill Suite provides additional space and privacy. The Canning and Civic Suites, each measuring 47 square metres, occupy corner positions overlooking Fort Canning and the Civic District. Separate living areas, generous natural light and deep bathtubs give these larger apartments a more spacious character, while kitchenettes and in-room laundry facilities support extended visits.

Across the collection, the details are chosen to make daily routines feel familiar. Casting-enabled televisions, portable Bang & Olufsen speakers and Malin + Goetz bath amenities sit alongside the practical requirements of a longer stay. Hybrid cooling combines ceiling fans with air-conditioning to reduce reliance on mechanical cooling where possible, while filtered drinking water taps help reduce the need for single-use bottled water.

Where Daily Life Extends Beyond the Apartment

The experience at APT. reaches beyond the private rooms. A 24-hour gym equipped with Technogym equipment supports everyday wellness, while reception and concierge services provide assistance throughout the stay. Residents also have access to The Great Room by Industrious, whose 30,000-square-foot workplace occupies Levels Two and Three of Stamford Place. With coworking areas, private suites and meeting rooms, it offers a convenient setting for work and collaboration within the same building.

At ground level, dining and retail concepts bring another dimension to the development. Stamford Social is planned as an all-day gathering place inspired by European cafés and bistros, while the wider line-up includes Blue Label Tavern, Yoruya and Nanyang Old Coffee. Cold Storage On The Go provides everyday essentials, with Gelato Messina and Butter also set to join the destination.

The location further strengthens that connection to city life. Positioned at the corner of Stamford Road and Hill Street, APT. is around four minutes from City Hall MRT, with cultural institutions, green spaces, restaurants and retail destinations within easy reach. The Civic District becomes part of the stay, whether guests are in Singapore for work, relocation or an extended visit.

For Elevate Capital Group, the concept forms part of a wider vision for Stamford Place, developed with PGIM and designed by Ministry of Design in collaboration with Zarch Collaboratives. The transformation gives the former Stamford Court building a renewed role, bringing serviced accommodation together with workspaces, dining, retail and art.

APT. offers a take on hospitality shaped by the realities of contemporary life, where the boundaries between working, travelling and living are increasingly fluid. Its design draws meaning from the building and its surroundings, while the apartments provide room for guests to establish their own routines.

Within Singapore’s Civic District, the result is a stay that feels connected to the city while allowing space to settle into it.
