Gospel, Gold & Glory | Explore a tribute to Versace at Aidan’s Residence by Matthew Lim Associates

Exuding glamour, flamboyance and seduction, this KL home pays homage to the powerful ethos of Versace

An opulent ode to the subversive ethos of Versace, illustrated as ultra-glamorous, theatrically flamboyant and unabashedly seductive, is Aidan’s Residence. Located within the prestigious address of Banyan Tree Residence in Kuala Lumpur, every inch of this high rise condominium designed by Matthew Lim, founder and design principal of Matthew Lim Associates (MLA), is an exquisite [and quite literal] work of art.

Following the client’s bold creative vision which piqued Matthew’s own interest in the project, and taking his close attention to detail into account, the designer succeeded in accomplishing the main task assigned: to prominently highlight the owner’s comprehensive home collection pieces from the Italian luxury fashion brand.

How comprehensive, you ask? Think furniture, soft furnishings, tableware, bathroom fittings, lifestyle decor and everything but the kitchen sink. Some particularly striking elements include the Jaipur Sofa with Zahara velvet upholstery and printed panels, large Rokko Cheetah statue in gold and Medusa Amplified double-face comforter.

Even the tiles come courtesy of the brand, covering and/or detailing the entrance floor, wall, bathroom floor and the powder area counter. In other words, the Versace DNA is deeply embedded into every inch of the 1,000 square feet home.

Apart from the label’s signature Medusa head icon, complementing this endeavour is the use of its staple colours of black and gold for the entire abode’s dominating colour palette. More than just an act of authentically supplementing the theme from a visual standpoint, it characteristically and spiritually reflects the meaning of them with black portraying power and elegance, and gold evoking glamour and affluence.

Imbuing added depth and dimension to the space is a motley of shades and textures, with angular dimensions reigning supreme for a sharper impact. Staying on par with the obvious grandeur infused throughout the home are other Italian luxury brands such as bathroom solutions expert Catalano, furniture leader Gallotti&Radice as well as the vanguards of small domestic appliances, Smeg and De’ Longhi.

Just as it was revolutionary for Gianni Versace to dismantle traditionalists’ sartorial snobbery against an overload of print, glitz and skin during the 80s, MLA too has outdone itself in the redefinition of opulence through this physical manifestation of Versace’s DNA. A palace fit for a king, what more need be said?
