Happy 25th Birthday, Thinkscape!

Celebrating a quarter century of making brand environments work, Thinkscape continues to reach greater heights with better, bolder, meaningful ideas.

In the glittering world of design where creativity meets innovation, Thinkscape Design Works Sdn Bhd recently threw the ultimate bash to celebrate its 25th year of pushing the boundaries of imagination. The whimsicality of the yellow dress code, in honour of the multiple award-winning firm’s corporate colour, served as an inspiring canvas for personal creativity and group connectivity. 

At the helm of this extravaganza, held on January 5th of 2024 under the tagline, ‘Together, We Reach New Heights,’ is its enigmatic founder, John Jong. A fervent proponent of multidisciplinary collaboration, he laid the cornerstone of Thinkscape with a vision that goes beyond the conventional. Known for his provocative conceptual thinking, he is active in developing new ideas in design-led innovation and placemaking.

Whether conceptualising interior design for the collaborative “Escape by Etiqa,” crafting the “moving fabric”-inspired facade of LBS headquarters in Selangor, or positioning for the corporate brand identities of Sarawak oil company PETROS and the iconic fashion eyewear brand O.W.L., Thinkscape’s portfolio echoes John’s commitment to tackling challenges with his own concoction of brilliance.

Noteworthy example of this prowess: Thinkscape’s recent string of inspired designs for corporate office interiors. From the flora-driven motifs that underpins the CIMB corporate workplace in KL, to the imaginative weavings-inspired interiors of the Mercu Maybank tower in i-City – each work not only put occupants at ease and inspire motivation, but manages to captivate the imagination with a distinct twist, all while remaining culturally relevant and aligned with the clientele’s vision.

He says, “I believe in the power of design-led ideas, as their impact on the world’s visual and built environment can be profound, and there is nothing more satisfying than tackling a really complex brand and design challenge for a client, especially being able to solve it both beautifully and intelligently. This is what gets me out of bed every morning.” With that said, each and every member of the team is bound by a single purpose: to create meaningful places, experiences and value. 

The presence of the guest of honour, YB Datuk Amar Prof. Dr. Sim Kui Hian who is currently serving as the Deputy Premier of Sarawak as well as the Minister For Public Health, Housing and Local Government of Sarawak, was signalled by a roaring lion dance performance as he came in full support of the design firm and its Sarawakian founder. 

With a snip of the ribbon, Thinkscape’s new headquarters, housed within the magnificent Sentul Works – a lovingly restored 110-year-old colonial wonder – unveiled itself to the crowd as it ushers in a new era of excellence. It should go without saying, but just in case you’re wondering: yes, Thinkcape itself was solely responsible for designing its very own office.

After that, a celebratory toss of prosperity took place at Tiffin At The Yard, located just a few steps away, followed by heartfelt speeches by John and the good doctor. As with any grand celebration, delectable feasts and electrifying performances ultimately brought the night to a satisfying close.

In every smile exchanged, one could glimpse the shared vision of a bright future where collaboration would propel them all to uncharted heights. Here’s to the next 25 years of tackling complexity with beauty and intelligence, ensuring every Thinkscape project continues to be a masterpiece.
